When you speak with Ariel Jacob Luna, one thing becomes immediately clear: his devotion to veterans extends far beyond a job description. A U.S. Army veteran himself (2000–2006), Ariel leads NJ SOS Vets, an organization dedicated to supporting veterans across New Jersey with emergency assistance, community networking, and life-changing resources.
We sat down with Ariel to talk about his mission, the realities of running a nonprofit, and why solutions like Vee have become essential for small organizations trying to do big things.
Meet NJ SOS Vets: A Statewide Mission to Bring Veterans Home Safely
NJ SOS Vets is built on a simple but powerful idea: no veteran should face crisis alone.
Ariel and a network of dedicated service providers work across every county in New Jersey to:
Unite veteran service providers
They host statewide meetups to bring together organizations, caseworkers, and community partners to share resources, identify gaps, and collaborate on solutions.
Provide emergency hotel assistance
If a veteran is homeless or facing a housing crisis, NJ SOS Vets can act the same day.
They:
Secure a hotel room within hours
Offer transportation and food if needed
Stabilize the veteran
Connect them with long-term community resources
Since launching in February 2024, the team has already helped 511 veterans get off the streets.
“We’re a group of professionals who come together to resolve issues veterans face. We’re always looking for new resources to make our veterans’ lives better.”
The Reality of Running a Nonprofit: “You Can’t Make More Time”
Like every nonprofit leader, Ariel faces the challenge of balancing mission work with the overwhelming administrative demands behind the scenes.
His biggest lesson?
Time is the one resource no nonprofit can make more of.
“When you first start out, you want to be the jack of all trades. But the truth is, you can’t make more time. And something like Vee is a blessing because it’s a time saver.”
Ariel shared how tasks like social media scheduling, grant writing, and funding applications were taking hours away from outreach, the work he loves and excels at.
“People say, ‘just apply for funding.’ Have you ever seen those applications? It’s too much. Too many forms. Not enough hours in the day.”

Grant finds the right grants, writes applications, and sends them ready for review.

“We don’t have to worry about social media — it’s just there. And with grants, somebody else is taking care of it. That’s huge for us. We’re always looking for ways to be more efficient, and Vee helps us do that.”
A Message to Other Nonprofit Leaders
