Every year, more than 200,000 veterans transition out of military service and face challenges finding stable civilian careers.

Cloud Veterans exists to help change that. Through free cloud computing training, certification prep, resume and LinkedIn coaching, and direct job placement support, the organization helps veterans build long-term careers in tech after service.

But scaling that impact requires more than great programming. It requires funding. And for a lean nonprofit team, maintaining consistent grant momentum while also staying visible online can quickly become overwhelming.

The Challenge

By 2024, Cloud Veterans was growing quickly.

Demand for the program was increasing. Veteran applications were rising. And the team needed a more sustainable way to manage fundraising without pulling focus away from the people they served.

Like many nonprofits, they faced several operational bottlenecks:

  • Limited time for grant research and writing

  • Difficulty maintaining a consistent application pipeline

  • A growing waitlist of veterans needing support

  • Inconsistent social media activity while prioritizing programs

The challenge wasn’t finding one grant.

It was building long-term consistency.

Building Momentum with Grant + Maggie

Cloud Veterans joined Vee.com in June 2024 — back when the platform was focused primarily on grant matching. At first, the value was speed and alignment: a steady stream of qualified, mission-aligned funding opportunities surfaced automatically, without the team spending hours searching databases manually.

As Vee evolved, so did the partnership. When Grant, Vee’s AI grant teammate, introduced writing support, Cloud Veterans began using the platform not just to identify opportunities — but to actively write and submit stronger applications faster.

Over time, the organization built a more repeatable fundraising workflow:

  • Identifying aligned opportunities

  • Maintaining a steady submission pipeline

  • Reducing time spent on manual research

  • Continuing applications consistently throughout the year

At the same time, Cloud Veterans used Maggie, Vee’s AI social media teammate. Maggie has helped the organization schedule and publish more than 180 social posts — helping Cloud Veterans stay visible to veterans, funders, and supporters while the team focused on operations and programming.

Real Impact Beyond Funding

The $25,000 PenFed Foundation grant alone helped move more than 100 veterans off the Cloud Veterans waitlist and directly into the Operation Cloud Career Program.

Here’s how the organization described the moment they received the funding:

“On behalf of Cloud Veterans, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your incredibly generous $25,000 grant, and it could not have come at a more critical time. Right now, we are experiencing an unprecedented surge in applications, with 100+ veterans on our waitlist eager to begin their transition into cloud careers. Thanks to your support, we can now welcome every veteran on the waitlist into the program — changing lives, strengthening families, and empowering our nation’s heroes with meaningful career opportunities.”

— Cloud Veterans, on receiving the PenFed Foundation grant

For Cloud Veterans, these weren’t just grant wins.

They were opportunities to create real career pathways for veterans transitioning into civilian life.

Coverage of the PenFed Foundation grant was published publicly by the PenFed Foundation in March 2025.

Why This Partnership Matters

Cloud Veterans represents what long-term nonprofit momentum can look like when strong mission alignment meets consistent operational support.

Over two years, the organization didn’t just secure funding.

They built a repeatable system for fundraising, communications, and growth — one that continued compounding as their partnership with Vee evolved.

The result:

more consistency,

more visibility,

more funding,

and ultimately, more veterans served.

With Grant and Maggie working alongside the team, Cloud Veterans has been able to focus less on operational bottlenecks — and more on helping veterans build meaningful careers after service.
